MODULE 4: MERCY FORGIVENESS AND RECONCILIATION (NOVEMBER 30) The Hebrew word teshuva means “return.” It appeals to the infinite love and kindness of the Divine, which welcomes us with open arms at the moment when we take responsibility for our negative actions and seek to make amends. Jews, Christians and Muslims regard compassion as the highest ideal, not only in how we should treat others, but also as a reflection of the unconditional love in which the Holy One envelops us. When we use this quality, we cultivate the courage to forgive and the vulnerability to be forgiven. In this module, you will: Learn the meaning of desert hospitality and table conversation Make peace with someone you had a falling out with Practice guided meditations that induce unconditional love Explore the scriptures of Judaism, Christianity and Islam on the transforming power of mercy and compassion MODULE 5: INTERNAL PRESENCE FEMALE FACE OF THE DIVINE (DECEMBER 7) Something in the soul of the human family now yearns more than ever for the Divine Feminine. She has been shunned, ridiculed, and burned alive for millennia. By revitalizing our relationship with the holy woman as a mother, beloved, closest friend, we can reveal a treasure map that leads to the resources we need to heal the devastated planet and all who live on it. In this module, you will: Shift your attention from the transcendent to the immanent nature of the Divine Explore incarnate, embodiment of spirituality Compare How Judaism, Christianity, and Islam Relate to the Sacred Feminine Hear stories from the lives of female mystics in the three Abrahamic religions Exploring Bible Wisdom Literature MODULE 6: STILL QUIET VOICE CONCEPTIVE LIFE (DECEMBER 14) Many modern spiritual seekers have abandoned their Judeo-Christian roots in pursuit of oriental meditation practices, only to find that the religions they grew up with contain a rich contemplative tradition. There has been a contemplative resurgence among Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders seeking to be more meaningful to their communities. Each of the monotheistic religions teaches us to turn inward and develop direct and personal relationships with the sacred in peace and quiet. In this module, you will: Commit yourself to regular meditation practice Experience of Centering Prayer Practice dhikr (the Islamic practice of chanting the divine name) Explore the teachings of the fathers and mothers of the desert MODULE 7: FIRE AND WINE SUFFERING AND EXALTATION (DECEMBER 21) A direct encounter with the sacred – whether it be a dramatic experience of mystical fusion or a fleeting glimpse of the Unity of the Cosmos and our perfect place in all this – carries the quality of ecstasy. This is the place from which the poetry of the mystic flows and flows. Deep pain can also be the gateway to the numinous. Grief robs us of our usual worries and bares our hearts. From this naked space our striving for the Divine is intensified. In this module, you will: Engage in contemplative reading of mystical poetry and Scripture from Judaism, Christianity, and Islam that express separation from God Explore the connection between loss and longing for a loved one Practice inter-spiritual chanting to open your heart Identify common themes in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic teachings that invoke both the ecstatic and painful nature of Divine Relationships.
